Spiritual Breakthroughs

Many years ago someone gave me a book of inspirational sayings called "Dancing Star" and in there was the saying by Nietzsche that you will find all over my website, leaflets and business cards:

"One must have chaos in oneself in order to give birth to a dancing star."

The saying resonated deeply with me because I arrived on the Spiritual path as a result of what you might call a tricky youth and a slightly painful (masterful understatement here) marriage.  I arrived on it in a state of despair - not to go into details that should remain in the past - and definitely in a state of chaos.  Since that day so many years ago, I have felt better and better because of my Spiritual knowledge gathering.

Sometimes now when people come to me for help or a Reading, or to study at one of my workshops, they comment on the knowledge I have, and I always tell them that it's knowledge gained through two things, the school of hard knocks and a willingness to learn from life.

As you will see in an article called "Karma Balance" which will be appearing in Silent Voices magazine in the new year (www.silentvoices.org.uk), I believe that people bring us lessons everyday and we have two choices, either to understand that people's behaviour towards us is a lesson and learn it, or to believe that we're being hard done by and complain.

If you take the second option you will spend the majority of your life feeling hurt and bewildered, whereas if you take the first option you will have breakthrough after breakthrough almost every day of your life.  Which means that every day life in general will get a little easier to deal with, and you might actually start silently thanking those people for bringing the lesson to you to learn.

So the message is, wake up, be aware, LIVE your life don't cruise through it, learn your lessons and allow them to make your world a sunnier place to inhabit.

  1. I've had alot of people trying to teach me a lesson, but to be honest I've only found them "belittling because of what they need", nothing to do with what I need at all. Most are creeps, so I personally would take the second option and complain. I have even sued! I am a fair person and I do feel hard done by and feel hurt and bewildered but who are they to inflict grief and pain on others anyway. I just tell myself it's time to move on. Luckily for me I pick up on this quite early, not much I can do about it sometimes as we need some people.
    Some of these people have bullied their way to the top, do we walk away peacefully of do we complain, I feel the latter does at least give you peace of mind that it's not you that's at fault though. Maybe it's them that need to be taught a lesson, for they use their power on vulnerable people who are not able to retaliate.It's all very well, saying Karma; "what goes around, comes around he/she will get their comeuppance but I'm not going to stick around to let someone make my life a misery.

  2. Sometimes the hardest lessons to learn are the hardest things to see in ourselves. Unfortunately, there will be different people who will show us again and again in different ways what we need to know, until one day we understand that particular life lesson and then everything slots into place. We then look back at what has happened in our life and wonder “Why didn’t I see that lesson the first time ?” If only life was that easy ….. Jayne

  4. may be the way to spiritual enlightenment is always "hard knocks"

    most people i have met recently who have had spiritual breakthrough have had previous upset of some kind, health, mental or just bad times........

    this reminds me of my favourite poem.

    Desiderata

    -- written by Max Ehrmann in the 1920s --
    Not "Found in Old St. Paul's Church"! -- see below

    Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
    and remember what peace there may be in silence.

    As far as possible, without surrender,
    be on good terms with all persons.
    Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
    and listen to others,
    even to the dull and the ignorant;
    they too have their story.
    Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
    they are vexatious to the spirit.

    If you compare yourself with others,
    you may become vain or bitter,
    for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
    Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
    Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
    it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

    Exercise caution in your business affairs,
    for the world is full of trickery.
    But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
    many persons strive for high ideals,
    and everywhere life is full of heroism.
    Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
    Neither be cynical about love,
    for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
    it is as perennial as the grass.

    Take kindly the counsel of the years,
    gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
    Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
    But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
    Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

    Beyond a wholesome discipline,
    be gentle with yourself.
    You are a child of the universe
    no less than the trees and the stars;
    you have a right to be here.
    And whether or not it is clear to you,
    no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

    Therefore be at peace with God,
    whatever you conceive Him to be.
    And whatever your labors and aspirations,
    in the noisy confusion of life,
    keep peace in your soul.

    With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
    it is still a beautiful world.
    Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
